The Bishopsgate Institute’s free Friday lunchtime concert series is back, this week featuring rising star of the British classical music scene, trumpeter Imogen Whitehead.

Each week, the music in this series takes its inspiration from a theme suggested by the collections in Bishopsgate Institute’s famous library, centred on London’s history of protest and campaigning.

This lunchtime concert takes inspiration from an iconic 1980s pin badge announcing TOGETHER WE CAN STOP THE BOMB, made by political activist Mavis Middleton (1922-1999).

Towards the end of her life, Middleton lobbied tirelessly to raise awareness of green issues; but in the 1970s and 1980s her main concern was with the threat of nuclear war.
