the performers:
Ayanna Witter-Johnson
about the music:
Ayanna Witter-Johnson has a fascinatingly unique sound. There aren’t many artists who describe their style as ‘soul, hip-hop, and a bit of reggae’, and also list Bach, Stravinsky and Ligeti amongst their influences.
Witter-Johnson studied classical composition, and has collaborated with the London Symphony Orchestra, but her music ranges from classical works to covers of classic songs like Roxanne. Here’s a live performance from Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw:
This live show will be an intimate and powerful experience: Witter-Johnson says that every concert she gives strives to ‘chronicle her experience as a female artist in the 21st century’.
Expect to hear her latest single Crossroads (music video below), along with an eclectic mix of classical and non-classical gems.
about the venue:
The Jazz Cafe is one of London’s great venues. As you might imagine, it’s usually a place for big names from the jazz world, but it’s a beautiful space for any concert.
In normal times, you could opt to either stand with a drink or sit up in the balcony with service from the restaurant, but COVID-restrictions have made all of the venue’s events tables-and-chairs kind of affairs (see set-up below).
Don’t worry though - you can still grab some fantastic food and cracking cocktails, sit back, and enjoy some incredible live music.
the price:
£14 (£20 for seats in the restaurant)
