Soweto Kinch collaborates with the London Symphony Orchestra

  • from £5 | Barbican Hall Silk Street London, England, EC2Y 8DS United Kingdom (map)

the ttn team recommends…

Soweto Kinch presents White Juju: a new work for orchestra, written in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, Black British history and the past 18 months of lockdown.

White Juju is made up of six new pieces for jazz quintet and chamber orchestra. Beginning with the silence of quarantine in 2020, it mimics sounds such as a bird call in Central Park, and the statue of a slaver crashing into Bristol’s River Avon, interwoven with Kinch’s incisive lyrics.

The piece intentionally seeks to subvert expectations of orchestral music. Kinch’s music melds Jazz and Hip Hop with Classical music: drawing inspiration from European folklore, the African Diaspora and divisive national myths.

Tickets start from £18. Limited amount of unallocated Wildcard seats available for £15. Check availability here. Under 25s can get tickets for £5 by signing up to Young Barbican here (limited availability - log in with your Young Barbican account to check).
