What's on this week: classical music in London

It’s a big week for live classical music in London: OperaUpClose’s production of The Flying Dutchman opens in Paddington on Tuesday, the noisenights summer residency starts on Thursday in Dalston, the Islington Festival of Music and Art opens on the same day, and the BBC Proms gets underway on Friday.

OperaUpClose bring a new English version of Wagner’s maritime opera The Flying Dutchman to canal-side venue Grand Junction

Thursday 13 July, 7.30pm

Award-winning Solem Quartet are joined by vocalist Alice Zawadzki to play music by Steve Reich and Kate Bush in a hidden Dalston beer garden

Friday 14 July, 1pm

Joana Ly and Martin André perform French miniatures for violin and piano on Bastille Day at the Islington Festival of Music and Art

Saturday 15 July, 7.30pm

Manchester Collective perform Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs and Metamorphosen in Peckham’s converted car park Bold Tendencies


Sunday 23 July, 4pm

The Strictly Come Dancing tango band Tango Siempre perform authentic Nuevo Tango and Argentinian classical music from Buenos Aires and beyond
