what are noisenights?
noisenights are our vision for the future of global classical music: crowdfunded gigs taking world-leading musicians to iconic independent venues.

At the centre of every noisenight is a one hour(ish) global classical set. We platform international soloists and ensembles while also giving opportunities to outstanding new artists. All noisenights take place in gig venues where you get to experience classical music up close.
Live music needs your backing more than ever. Backing a noisenight means getting tickets to hear the world's best performers in grassroots venues and being part of a community working for a positive future for live music. Putting it simply, you giving your backing will make this gig happen and secure you a ticket.
After a noisenight reaches its funding target, we'll e-mail all backers to confirm it and a small amount of extra tickets will be made available. Tickets are released in four stages, which increase in price the closer to the event they're purchased. Book early to get the best price.
Please note that due to the venue's license, this noisenight is strictly 14+.
the venue:
A 1930s art deco Grade II listed former cinema in East London, Troxy is now one of London's best loved independent venues.
Built as a cinema in 1933 complete with the largest Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ in Europe, it closed in 1960 and became a training school for the London Opera Centre. In the 1980s the building was used as a bingo hall before being converted to a live events space in 2006.
the music:
South African cellist Abel Selaocoe is redefining the parameters of the cello. He moves seamlessly across genres and styles and combines virtuosic performance with improvisation, singing and body percussion.
This one-off show in the East End’s iconic Troxy features the launch of Abel’s second album, Hymns of Bantu. Following his acclaimed release Where Is Home (Hae ke Kae) in 2022, Hymns of Bantu delves into the unique modal scales and overtone harmonic systems of South African music before Western four-part harmony was introduced and how cultural histories evolve.

Featuring his own Bantu Ensemble with African percussion as well as orchestra, solo cello and electric bass, Abel will interpret traditional Bantu music alongside compositions by Bach and Marais, highlighting the synergies between musical legacies rather than their differences.
“Hymns of Bantu is about celebrating those that have come before us, and how we are all connected. It’s allowing classical music to again sit in the same space as where I’m from – allowing Bach to sit next to overtones and the world of throat singing.”
