the performers:
The Hermes Experiment
the programme:
Music written for the ensemble by Freya Waley-Cohen, Errollyn Wallen, Graham Ross and Jeremy Thurlow, as well as new arrangements of Clara Schumman and Lili Boulanger songs.
about the music:
We don’t know exactly which pieces you’ll hear in this concert, but we know it’s going to be great.
Why? Because The Hermes Experiment are the most exciting new-music quartet around. They’re an unusual combination of harp, clarinet, double bass and soprano voice, and they’re amazing musicians and storytellers.
Have a listen to this short improvised performance for a sense of their vibe.
One thing we do know is that this concert will feature the work of four of today’s best composers, including Errollyn Wallen, whose piece Jerusalem - Our clouded hills featured in the Last Night of the Proms this year.
Have a listen here to Wallen’s Gun Gun Gun, from The Hermes Experiment’s latest album. The music is full of exciting rhythms, unusual sounds and a virtuosically difficult soprano part performed by the quartet’s very own Héloïse Werner.
This is the perfect post-lockdown concert full of fresh new music played by the best people around. Definitely worth getting a ticket. We’ll be there.
