A festival celebrating Brahms opens this week
The Brahms Symphony Festival opens this week at St. John’s Smith Square - a celebration of music by Brahms across four concerts 24 February - 3 March.
The festival will host The Outcry Ensemble, returning to St John’s after their acclaimed performance of Brahms’ requiem and the Beethoven 251 Festival, which presented all nine of Beethoven’s Symphonies.
Each concert features a pre-concert talk given by The Outcry Ensemble’s conductor, James Henshaw, where the music is explained and explored.
The series will feature all four of Brahms’ symphonies, as well as his two piano concertos, violin concerto, and double concerto. Conductor James Henshaw will be joined by soloists Christopher Hopkins (piano), Oscar Perks (violin), and Leo Melvin (cello).
For those who come to all four concerts in the Brahms Symphony Festival there is a 15% discount. Under 30s can get £5 tickets by joining the free SJSS Young Friends scheme.
