The Prime Minister has confirmed in a press conference this afternoon that the next, and final, unlocking stage will go ahead on 19 July.

He stated that we cannot ‘revert instantly’ on 19 July to life as it was before Covid.

As well as expecting people to continue wearing face masks in crowded and enclosed spaces, the Prime Minister says he does not expect everyone who had been working from home to be back in the office.

However, for live events, there will be no social restrictions. All legal limits on capacities will be lifted, for both indoor and outdoor events.

The 1m+ rule will also be dropped, meaning that venues will be able to operate at 100% capacity - the first time this has been permitted since March 2020.

The Prime Minister has encouraged nightclub owners and event promoters who manage large crowds to use the NHS app Covid pass as a means for entry, but this is not a legal requirement.
