11pm: Matondology Riot set starts

1am: DJ Mattana takes over until close

the venue:

The Jago is a renowned arts and culture venue in the renovated buildings of the Hackney Gazette printing press.

The Jago's eclectic programme of music, art, dance, film screenings, workshops and community work relects the diverse cultures of the local Dalston community.

the music:

Kinshasa-born Mulele Matondo is a bassist, guitarist and arranger with a flair for his home grown Congolese music. Affected by endless conflict back home and inspired by outspoken artists before him, Mulele now writes music for the people - songs about real lives and problems.

Mulele's Matondology Riot play a blend of Africa's finest dance music styles, revived and modernised with a strong foundation of Congolese Rumba and the sunshine sounds of seben guitar, seamlessly fused with a neat dose of funk, jazz, soukous and afrobeat.

Expect polyrhythmic guitars, grooving bass and soaring brass, along with hypnotic drum rhythms coupled with dance-inducing beats. Mulele himself says, “this is a party, not a gig”.
