the venue:

Oslo is one of London's iconic clubs. The first of its type to open in the area, it's based in the redeveloped Victorian Hackney railway station.

The venue has hosted Mumford and Sons, Dua Lipa, and Alabama Shakes, but noisenight nine will be the first classical show to take over this unique space.

the music:

Chesaba is an electrifying trio specialising in music from the African continent.

The band features an eclectic blend of instruments, including Abel Selaocoe on cello and voice, Sidiki Dembele on djembe, kora, n’goni, African percussion and voice, and Alan Keary on electric bass and voice.

Accompanied by the languages of Bambara, Zulu, Sotho, Tswana, and more, the music is full of improvisations influenced by African, jazz and classical music.

abel selaocoe (cello and voice):

South African cellist Abel Selaocoe is redefining the parameters of the cello. He moves seamlessly across a plethora of genres and styles, from collaborations with world musicians and beatboxers, to concerto performances and solo classical recitals.

Abel combines virtuosic performance with improvisation, singing and body percussion, and has a special interest in curating recital programmes that highlight the links between Western and non-Western musical traditions, with view to helping classical music reach a more diverse audience.
